Custom Staircases Crafted to Belong
Precise craftsmanship, to create staircases that feel like a lasting part of your home.
At Furniture Grade Floors, we believe a staircase should be more than a way to move between floors. From thoughtful design to precise installation and respect for the natural character of the wood, staircases become an architectural feature that brings craftsmanship, character, and continuity to your home. From selecting the right wood to refining the smallest details, we approach each staircase with careful planning and an eye for how every element works together.
-
Custom staircases involve more than the visible woodwork. Measurements, structural conditions, material selection, and finishing details all contribute to the final result. We begin by discussing your vision, evaluating the architectural plans or existing staircase, and reviewing the surrounding floors, trim, and architectural details. We’ll explore wood species, tread styles, risers, edge profiles, finishes, and other details to create a cohesive look that suits your home.
We also review measurements, site conditions, and applicable building requirements before work begins.
-
We help select materials that complement your hardwood floors and overall design. Wood species, grain patterns, color, and finish all contribute to the final appearance.
In Colorado’s dry climate, proper moisture management is especially important. We evaluate the materials and indoor conditions and follow applicable NWFA guidelines to determine when materials are ready for installation.
-
Each component is measured, cut, and fitted to suit the staircase and surrounding space. Depending on the design, this may include custom treads, risers, landings, trim, and transitions.
We focus on consistent proportions, tight-fitting joints, clean lines, and secure installation. The goal is a staircase that feels intentional and integrated with the rest of your home.
-
For site-finished staircases, we carefully prepare the wood before applying the selected stain, sealer, and protective finish. We work to achieve a consistent appearance that complements adjacent flooring while allowing the natural grain and character of the wood to come through.
For prefinished components, we coordinate colors, finishes, and transitions to create a cohesive result.
