Installation & Finish
Adding character and home value, a lifetime floor is our expertise.
There is no better custom floor than site-finished hardwood. As true craftsman, we hand select the finest North American hardwoods to bring your inspiration to life and exceed your expectations. All of our material is sustainably sourced and forested. At Furniture Grade Floors, we believe a beautiful hardwood floor starts long before the first board is installed. From selecting the right material to preparing your home and accounting for Colorado’s dry mountain climate, every step matters. We follow the National Wood Flooring Association (NWFA) guidelines and applicable manufacturer recommendations to guide our installation process, helping ensure your floors are installed with care, precision, and long-term performance in mind.
-
In Colorado’s dry climate, selecting the right product and understanding how it responds to seasonal humidity changes are especially important.
We begin by reviewing your space, subfloor, and design goals to determine the best flooring material and installation method. We’ll discuss wood species, plank width, finish, and maintenance. -
Following NWFA guidelines, we evaluate site conditions before installation to help establish a stable environment for the wood. Before flooring arrives, the home should be enclosed, with heating and cooling systems operating under normal living conditions. Wet construction work should be complete, and the subfloor must be clean, level, and appropriately dry. In cases of remodels and floor replacements, FGF team will discuss if any additional subfloor prep or leveling is needed.
-
Wood naturally expands and contracts as it gains or loses moisture. In Colorado’s high-altitude, dry climate, indoor humidity can drop significantly during the heating season, making proper preparation particularly important.
We measure the moisture content of the flooring and subfloor, evaluate indoor temperature and humidity, and condition materials according to the product requirements and the conditions of your home. Following NWFA guidance, we base installation readiness on verified moisture conditions rather than a predetermined number of days.
Proper preparation helps reduce the risk of excessive seasonal gaps, cupping, and other moisture-related issues.
-
We install your hardwood using the appropriate method for the product and space. We pay attention to layout, board selection, transitions, and the details that help create a cohesive finished floor.
Using our dustless sanding system we sand and or texture the installed floor. Once complete, we’ll apply the agreed-upon color and sheen, and apply a professional protective finish. -
Our craftmanship is guaranteed for life. Once your project is complete, our team will provide recommendations for cleaning, humidity management and on-going maintenance. FGF also provides packages for deep cleans, helping to preserve the life of your floors.
